Treating Cystic Fibrosis

With Surfing

Mauli Ola Foundation

Mauli Ola Foundation is an organization born out of the research that showed the benefits ocean water as a natural therapy for those with cystic fibrosis due to the high amount of saline that is inhaled in that environment. They introduce surf experiences for those with the disease to help them learn how to surf which provides a natural therapy while enjoying an awesome sport. Today Mauli Ola Foundation continues to provide hope to those with cystic fibrosis and other genetic diseases through their work.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes a thick buildup of mucus in lungs and other organs, and it limits the ability to breathe over time. According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Patient Registry more than 30,000 people are living with this disease in the United States, and more than 70,000 worldwide. Over 75% with cystic fibrosis are diagnosed by the age of 2 years, and there are about 1000 new cases diagnosed each year.
